Farley S. Ferguson papers, 1922-1942.

Printed materials, correspondence, reports, technical drawings, engineer's field books, and other papers of Farley S. Ferguson, who worked in the engineering department at the Austin Company, a design, engineering, and construction firm with offices in Chicago that was involved in building aircraft factories and other military facilities during World War II. Included is a report on runways (1942) and materials on steel and concrete paving during cold weather. Also present are 15 engineer's field books (1922-1936) containing notes and sketches by Ferguson.

The Austin Company (f. 1878), a carpentry and contracting business, was founded by Samuel Austin (1850-1936), a young carpenter who had left his native England for the United States after hearing about the Chicago fire of 1872, expecting that the city would need skilled craftsmen to help it rebuild.
